Billy Frank Jr. Day

Billy Frank Jr., born in 1931, was a fierce advocate for tribal treaty rights, salmon, and environmental protection. A proud citizen of the Nisqually Tribe, Billy led a lifetime of activism, even enduring beatings and arrests in his fight for justice. His “fish-ins” were instrumental in the landmark Boldt Decision of 1974, which upheld tribal fishing rights and secured 50% of the annual salmon harvest for tribes.

Billy’s legacy continues to inspire and drive movements for treaty rights and environmental protection, both in the Northwest and beyond.

Let’s come together to honor his groundbreaking leadership and reflect on our shared responsibility to preserve the cultural and natural heritage of this land.
