Welcome to La Conner Schools Food Service! Our school board and superintendent prioritize serving our students the most nutritious meals possible while following Washington State and USDA regulations for our Child Nutrition Program.

The Food Service Department is excited to announce the continuation of free breakfast and lunch meals for ALL students for the school year. The continuation of free meals is possible through the implementation of the United States Department of Agriculture Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). CEP is an option for school districts that have at least 40% of students who directly qualify for free meals through a variety of assistance programs, including Basic Food benefits, Medicaid, TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), McKinney Vento or Migrant programs.

With the continuation of CEP, the La Conner School District will not distribute and process Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications.  To ensure that the other educational services are still available, the district will reach out to families who previously qualified for free or reduced-price meals through meal applications to complete a Family Income Survey. This survey allows the district to track income data for families that is used to determine funding levels for a variety of educational programs offered throughout the district. The surveys are available and submitted through FinalForms.

The Food Service Department can accommodate children with special dietary needs due to food intolerance or allergies. Please complete the Special Dietary Request Form and have it signed by a licensed medical authority and return the completed form to the school nurse to receive accommodation. The nurse will communicate information about the dietary modification to the Food Service Department. Forms and more information are available here: Special Dietary Request Form.

Examples of common accommodations include lactose-free milk for students with lactose intolerance or gluten-free options for students with celiac disease or gluten intolerance. Please ensure the Diet Prescription Form includes "Foods to Substitute" as these specifications are required. Any questions or concerns about dietary modifications can be directed to Email Nurse Monica Cook or Food Service Director Email Kelly Kjarstad or 360-466-3171 ext. 2520.

Breakfast After the Bell Program

When kids eat breakfast, they do better in school. They have better focus, higher attendance, and are more likely to graduate. When kids eat together, they build bonds and create community. Our school is bringing these benefits to every classroom by offering all students a daily FREE Breakfast After the Bell. We deliver breakfast to every classroom by 8:05 a.m. each regular school day. Every classroom will start the morning as a community, enjoying a healthy school breakfast, as their teacher begins the instructional day.
