About School and Family Engagement Specialist - Megan Boyer

I’m passionate about helping families and kids thrive in school! With my background in psychology and human development from Washington State University, I’ve gathered a lot of experience in education and child welfare.

I believe every family deserves support, so I’m here to help without any complicated referral processes. I keep an eye on attendance in our district and reach out to families when I notice patterns. My goal is to make sure students feel encouraged and supported, so I work closely with schools and families to tackle any challenges.

Together, we’ll figure out what might be causing absenteeism, create personalized plans, and connect families with helpful resources. I check in regularly to see how things are going. Ultimately, I want to help every child attend school consistently in a way that feels right for them and their family! Please reach out anytime with questions or concerns.

Notification Of Absences/Acceptable Excuses for Being Absent from School

All parents in this state of any child eight years of age and under eighteen years of age shall cause such child to attend the public school of the district in which the child resides and such child shall have the responsibility to and therefore shall attend for the full time when such school may be in session. (RCW 28A.225.010)

Only the school office can excuse an absence based on timely information. If your child is out for 4 or more days for illness a doctor’s note will be required to excuse the absences.

Parents are asked to call the office within 72 hours to excuse an absence and/or send a written excuse with the student if returning on the day following the absence. Absences excused beyond the 72 hours will require documentation. Car problems or oversleeping are not excusable tardies or absences (see link for the WA state law).
