Elementary Art

Tonight, at the regular board meeting, President Deyo welcomed Elementary Art Teacher Katie Wigal and several of her students to highlight the incredible impact of the newly funded arts program. Ms. Wigal, who teaches all K-5 students, shared her excitement about offering a creative outlet that inspires critical thinking and problem-solving while integrating academic vocabulary.

Beth Clothier, Director of Teaching and Learning, celebrated how LCSD exceeds state fine arts requirements by offering both art and music in elementary school.

Students shared their experiences: Georgia (5th grade), Ryan (4th grade), and Owen (5th grade) shared that art is the best class! It helps us be more creative and get better at sketching. It’s also super relaxing and a fun way to show who we are. We get to look at colorful sunsets, learn about cool artists, and try new things to figure out what we’re good at and what we love to make!

Ms. Wigal’s class also created heartfelt posters for the board, saying, "You help us to glow. You help us to grow." It’s exciting to see our young artists embrace creativity and make connections that inspire lifelong learning. We’re proud of this program for fostering joy, inspiration, and engagement in our students' learning!
