solar energy

The La Conner School District is excited to announce a significant step toward advancing sustainability and renewable energy in our community. A Request for Proposals (RFP) has been issued, inviting qualified contractors to submit bids for the design, installation, and commissioning of a solar plus storage system at the Middle School.

This ambitious project, funded through an EPIC Department of Commerce Community Decarbonization grant, reflects La Conner School District’s commitment to energy efficiency and environmental stewardship. Cascadia Renewables completed the feasibility design and will guide as the Owner’s Representative for the remainder of the project. The project has a budget of $1,800,000 and is scheduled for completion by December 2025. The next steps include application reviews and a decision on or after December 20, 2024.

This solar plus storage system will serve as a local example of the power of renewable energy and its role in building a sustainable future. This system reduces the carbon footprint of one of our largest community buildings and will provide clean backup power for critical community needs during a power outage. The La Conner Middle School is a designated emergency shelter for the community and with this resilient system it will provide essential energy-dependent services.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to MaryLee Chamberlain and Mary Wohleb for their dedication and initiative in driving this impactful project forward. Their efforts have laid the foundation for a lasting benefit to our schools and community. We look forward to collaborating with Cascadia Renewables to bring this vision to completion.
